Laser eye surgery has revolutionized the field of vision correction, offering alternatives to traditional glasses or contact lenses. Two popular procedures, LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) and PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy), stand out as effective solutions for vision correction. LASIK is renowned for its quick recovery period and significant improvement in vision. Using advanced technology, a thin flap in the cornea is created to reshape the eye's internal surface, ushering in a new realm of clarity.

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK was the first laser refractive surgery approved by the FDA and has been performed for more than 24 years. PRK differs from LASIK in that no flap of tissue is created prior to resculpting the cornea with the excimer laser. This makes PRK a good option for patients whose corneas may be too thin for LASIK or have a curvature that might make creating a flap unsafe. PRK may also be a better treatment for patients with moderately dry eyes.
